In plain language

This service checks two things. For infant food, that every nutrient sits within the narrow range the regulation sets, and that the product is free of the pathogens and contaminants an infant cannot tolerate. For fortified food, that the added vitamins and minerals are present at the declared level, so the +F claim on the pack holds.

When to use this test

Launching or reformulating an infant formula, infant cereal or follow-up food

Verifying fortificant levels in rice, flour, salt, oil or milk before dispatch

Supplying fortified staples to a public distribution or nutrition scheme

Checking a premix or fortified rice kernel lot on receipt

Questions we get asked

Which regulation applies to my infant product?

Infant formula, infant cereals and follow-up foods fall under the FSSAI Foods for Infant Nutrition Regulations, 2020. Tell us the product category and age group and we will select the panel the regulation sets for it.

Can you check whether my fortified rice meets the standard?

Yes. We measure iron, folic acid and vitamin B12 against the levels FSSAI sets for fortified rice, and can test the fortified rice kernels separately.

Why do vitamin results vary between batches?

Vitamins break down with heat, light and time, so the result depends on when the sample was drawn and how it was stored. Send samples sealed and away from light, and test again near the end of shelf life if the claim matters.

Do you need the declared composition?

Yes. Send the label or the specification so we can report each nutrient as measured against declared, and flag anything outside the permitted range.

Can one report cover several batches?

No. Each batch is a separate sample and a separate report, because that is what an inspector or a buyer will ask to see.
